Mehler Protection is expanding its portfolio of ballistic helmets with the Omega Core, an ultra-lightweight combat helmet made of high-performance polyethylene composite (UHMWPE), according to the company. Designed for modern tactical and military mission profiles, the Omega Core combines an optimized UHMWPE composite core with a shell-integrated energy dissipation system and an ergonomically designed interior, according to Mehler Protection. The result is an optimum ratio of weight to ballistic performance, which increases mobility and reduces fatigue and neck strain. Compared to the Bundeswehr's current combat helmet, the new helmet has a weight saving of around 20 percent without compromising on protection, ergonomics and system integration. According to the press release, the helmet system will be presented at Enforce Tac 2026 as part of Mehler Protection's current helmet portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the manufacturer, the Omega Core combines a technically sophisticated ballistic design with an open rail architecture and modular interfaces, e.g. for NVG mounts, visors, communication devices and hearing protection. For the interior, multi-chamber padding and adaptive fixation points are used to minimize micro-movements under dynamic load and thus improve stability, comfort and fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The individually adjustable head net ensures permanent ventilation and thus minimizes perspiration and heat build-up. The shell concept is designed for low backface deformation and optimized fragment dissipation. Thanks to its modular platform architecture, the helmet can also be adapted to different mission profiles in the future - from highly mobile missions to situations with variable threat profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the announcement, the system is tested in accordance with the overall \u201eBallistic Helmet\u201c system (Chapter 3.2, May 2010), STANAG 2920 (V50 method for fragmentation protection) and NIJ STD 0106.01. The bullet tests are carried out against practice-relevant pistol ammunition (examples: 9 mm FMJ RN, .357 SIG FMJ FN, .44 Mag SJHP) in order to evaluate the performance characteristics. These guidelines and other procedures are used to ensure that the ballistic performance, shock absorption and material resistance meet the requirements of military users, writes Mehler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Series production takes place in the company's own plant in Fulda. According to the manufacturer, the automated production line has the capacity to produce more than 50,000 state-of-the-art helmets per year. Mehler Protection has the organizational and technical capabilities to scale up production threefold at short notice when orders are received. This means that the needs of the armed forces can be met quickly and reliably. The production strategy is based on short-term scalability, dual procurement logic for critical components and qualified supplier networks in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
