Development of a crash absorption system based on a shear field that makes it possible to stabilize the deformation of the surrounding structure, including the side members and crash boxes. The shear field ensures homogeneous energy distribution and constant absorption of crash energy during a controlled deformation process until the later stages of deformation. Based on the performance of such a shear field, a weight saving of more than 12% in the system space could be achieved without material changes.
