Rail vehicles usually have limited space for the air conditioning housing, so methodical weight optimization of the structural part of the air conditioning housing is required. The air conditioning housing, partitions, brackets, pipes and air ducts are optimized with a view to a stress-optimized new design. Improved structural load paths, activation of shear fields and load stage concepts are implemented. The structural weight was reduced by approx. 30 %.
Solution approaches
- Analysis of stiffness, structural load paths and stress distribution with regard to the use of materials
- Structural optimization of the housing with regard to implemented load stages
combined with local reinforcement and global wall thickness reduction, balanced stiffness distribution and wall reduction
- Simplification of the housing through functional integration and reduced manufacturing costs by reducing the number of parts
- Optimization of the structural behavior with regard to fatigue and vibrations, natural frequencies, taking into account all given technical boundary conditions
